WILDLIFE ATTACK: Buffalo mauls Rukungiri man on election day

RUKUNGIRI- A 22-year-old man is nursing abdominal wounds at Rwenshama Health Centre III after being mauled by a buffalo in Queen Elizabeth National Park, Bwambara Sub County in Rukungiri district as he was heading to participate in the elections.

Mr. Akampurira Gerald, who was supposed to participate in today’s NRM woman MP Primary elections by holding a contestant’s (Natukunda Medius Kaharata) portrait as her agent, met the wild beast in the wilderness while he was travelling to Nchwera polling station at Rwenshama fishing village.

The buffalo pierced him in the abdomen and threw him in the thorny bushes of the wilderness before his companions lifted him and rushed him to Rwenshama Health centre III.

By press time his condition was improving according to a medical report from the health facility.

His mother, Mrs. Joselyn Tibenderana told our reporter that she was still deeply concerned about her son’s health status since he sustained serious injuries.

Mr. David Kamukama a resident in the area told this online publication that Gerard was on his way to the polling station by the time he met this tragedy. The area LC1 Chairman Mr. Mugisha Kenneth now wants residents to always be careful when dealing with wild animals and when they are passing through the reserved areas.
