BUSHENYI- Four of the Bushenyi Ishaka strongmen who were eyeing the Municipality seat have denounced the election results saying it was full of irregularities.
These included the incumbent Hon Arinda Gordon Cowboy, Counsel Marvin Baryaruha, Arnold Spencer Turyomwe (Ekitondore) and Chris Muganzi (Enganzi).
The four candidates held a joint press conference at Premier Motel in Bushenyi town, Bushenyi-Ishaka Municipality in Bushenyi district on Sunday 6th September 2020
They accused the district NRM Registrar Barekye Archangel of conniving with Kabuura Derrick Baimukye (the purported winner) and altered the voting period in his favor. They are now calling upon the Chairperson NRM electoral commission Dr Tanga Odoi whom they have already petitioned to come and hold fresh elections for the sake of strengthening the party.
The Bushenyi Ishaka Municipality NRM results were announced by the registrar Barekye Archangel on Saturday 5th September 2020.
Kabuura Derrick: 7,376, Spencer Arnold 5,505, Marvin Baryaruha: 3,187, Cowboy Arinda Gordon: 2,038, Chris Muganzi (Enganzi): 1,049, Jenipher Musoke: 284, Nasser Nkakuriremu 118.
Arnold Spencer said, the poll was full of rigging where Kabuura derrick ferried voters from one polling station to another in Ishaka division and central division.
Hon Arinda Gordon Cowboy revealed that as NRM members, they cannot allow the party to weaken in arms of some individuals and said the district registrar Barekye Archangel is the one to blame for the whole drama that happened at the polling day.
Marvin Baryaruha wants the district registrar to step aside because he already sided. He said if Archangel is still in office, even fresh elections cannot yield anything good for the voters in Bushenyi district.
“After voting for women, my people were already in the voting line and they halted the process due to unclear circumstances, he is already bribed so he is no longer fit for office” Marvin added.
Another Candidate Chris Muganzi says Kabuura used the 3 hour time interval created after the womens’ elections to bribe voters and agents of most of the candidates.
“He bought up voters and got strangers from Ishaka who voted at various polling stations, his votes are even more than the expected voters”, he explained.
Our reporter contacted the NRM district registrar Barekye Archangel on the phone; he rubbished the allegations saying he has no time for fake issues.
