UPDF calls for calm as they hunt for prisoners who escaped from Singila Prison

KAMPALA- The Uganda Peoples Defence Forces (UPDF), Col Deo Akiiki has called on Ugandans to remain calm as they pursue the prisoners who escaped from Singila Prison in Moroto.

According to a press statement issued on September 17th 2020 and signed by UPDF Deputy Spokesman Col Deo Akiiki, a total of 219 prisoners escaped from Moroto Prison with 15 guns and the security organs are still hunting for them.

Col Deo Akiiki confirmed that 3 escapees were shot dead while 7 were arrested in exchange of gun fire where one of the UPDF soldiers was also shot dead.

Moroto District Security authorities however said that circumstances under which the prisoners escaped with guns are yet to be established.

Col Deo Akiiki said that some of the escapees have abandoned prison uniform and have put on civilian clothes, but he called on the residents to report any strange person they meet in their area.
