KANUNGU- Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) has announced that the main road from Kanyantorogo through Butogota leading to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park has been closed after the culverts along the road broke.
According to UNRA Communications Officer, the culverts gave in at and road collapsed making it for motorists to use it.
Kanyantorogo – Butogota – Bwindi road is one of the tourism roads which have been earmarked for tarmaking.
An Official from UNRA said that they have already received communication from Kanungu District Leaders about the broken culverts and UNRA has closed the road and advised the motorists to use another alternative road.
The Official told this Online Publication that all logistical necessary for restoration of the road has been moblised and works on site will start on Monday October 12th 2020 and appealed to the road users and the general public to remain calm as UNRA works on the road.
He attributed the breakage of the culverts to the ongoing heavy rains and said that it was a disaster like any other that could not be mitigated.
