KISORO- Kisoro District leaders are contemplating changing their voting pattern in the forthcoming general election if what is on the ground remains unresolved.
As Uganda prepares to participate in next year’s general elections, Kisoro district locals remain in the limelight, throwing complaints to President Yoweri Museveni and the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) government over what they termed as being forgotten whenever the election period ends.
This online publication has discovered an audio recording where one of the district leaders was heard telling the people in Kisoro District that its high time the government considered appointing more Bafumbira in strategic government positions so that they can cater to the transformation of the district.
Our reporter keen on discovering more about the audio recording, later got to know that it was James Agaba, the District male Youth Councillor who was sending signals.
In the recording that has since gone viral, Mr. Agaba is heard saying that Kisoro district has only two people in key government positions who include the Permanent Secretary in Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Pius Bigirimana and Minister for Regional Cooperation, Hon Philemon Mateke despite the sounding support the district gives to President Museveni.
Agaba further pointed out that, even when other districts don’t give overwhelming support like Kisoro district does, their people are considered and appointed to top important positions.
The youthful leader reminded the NRM government that Kisoro district is strategically positioned and has a number of natural resources that need a boost from government in order to benefit the locals but their hands are tied since they don’t have enough appointees in key government agencies and departments to lobby for them.
Agaba also noted that it is known that Kisoro district is Uganda’s tourism hub but roads leading to major tourism destinations remain impassable.
The youthful Leader noted that for example if Kisoro Airfield was upgraded to an Airport, more tourists would be landing directly in Kisoro instead of Rwanda and Goma as it’s a practice now.

Kisoro District is closer to Mgahinga and Bwindi Impenetrable Conservation Areas which serve as best tourist attraction areas World over because of the presence of rare mountain gorillas.
He also pointed out that Kisoro District has vast idle land that can be turned into an industrial park that would create massive job opportunities not only for the people of Kisoro but the country at large.
He however lamented that since there is no one to lobby for harnessing all these resources and Opportunities, the potential to develop Kisoro District remains hanging.
It should be noted that Kisoro District is among the few districts that have constantly and overwhelmingly supported and voted the current regime since 1986 but voices of complaints and dissatisfaction have started to emerge.
This leaves a big question whether Kisoro district voters will vote overwhelmingly like they have done before for President Museveni and NRM come 2021.
