KAMPALA- The Chairman of the National Resistance Movement’s (NRM) electoral commission, Dr Tanga Odoi has categorically denied some media reports that have been circulating indicating that the NRM will elect it’s leaders through an Electoral College.
According to a letter dated July 6th 2020 that was addressed to all District NRM Chairpersons, District Election Officers and NRM aspiring candidates, Dr Tanga Odoi emphasized that the NRM will elect it’s flag bearers using the existing law in the party constitution.
Dr. Odoi clarified that the information which has been circulating was false, because the party must elect it’s leaders through the universal adult suffrage.
“The Commission there advises and urges all party leaders and the entire NRM fraternity to ignore the false information being circulated,” Dr Tanga Odoi said.
Dr. Tanga Odoi further stated that elections within the party organs shall be executed by the NRM Electoral Commission as mandated according to Article 39 (10) of the Party Constitution.
Dr. Odoi also said that the NRM Electoral Commission shall release a roadmap for the party primary elections after the Central Executive Committee (CEC) approves it.
The letter was copied to all Residents District Commissioners (RDCs), all District Police Commanders (DPCs) and all District Internal Security Officers (DISOs).
