UGDECIDES2021: NRM postpones discussion on Party Primary Elections as Consultations continue

KAMPALA- The Ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), top policy making organ, the Central Executive Committee (CEC), has put aside the discussion of the much awaited party election roadmap until a later date to allow consultations.

The Central Executive Committee sitting at State House Entebbe under the chairmanship of President Yoweri Museveni is reported to have deferred the discussion on the roadmap after getting information that Cabinet had approved new statutory laws spelling out how the political parties should conduct their primaries during the Coronavirus pandemic period.

According to the NRM Senior Communications Manager Rogers Mulindwa, the cabinet proposal on the new laws governing the party primary elections is expected to be discussed by Parliament for approval anytime this week.

Mulindwa explained in a press release dated July 1st 2020, that the cabinet proposal may change the way the political parties have been handling the primary elections.

“The CEC will wait for the outcome of the Parliament decision on Statutory laws spelling out the how political parties should conduct their Primay elections in accordance with the Coronavirus pandemic restrictions” Mulindwa said.

Meanwhile Central Executive Comimmitte has approved the appointment of new Directors to run offices at the NRM Secretariat.

Those approved include Hon Jacqueline Kyatuheire as National Deputy Treasurer, Hon Mathias Kasamba as Director Mobilisation, Hon Emmanuel Dombo as Director Information and Hajjati Medina Naham as Director Finance and Administration.
