RUKUNGIRI- Police in Rukungiri have arrested two NRM youth delegates for allegedly exchanging money during NRM youth parliamentary elections held on Saturday at district headquarters.
The RDC Rukungiri Dan Kaguta who was at the scene by the time of arrest said the two were arrested after closed circuit television (CCTV) showed that they were exchanging money when they were already at the polling venue.
“With our CCTVs around the town the work of the police is eased because we are monitoring all the corners of the district there is no saying someone was arrested because of supporting who and who,” Kaguta said.
The NRM registrar Jackson Mugarura Kiiza said police have picked two delegates Albert Mugume and Elizabeth Rwakitonera for Unknown reasons.
“I saw two of our delegates being driven off in police vehicles saying they were taken to make a statement but I don’t know about what, I hope they will settle their matters before we vote,” he said.
One of the security officers who did not want to be named said they had a serious offence because they were exchanging money after entering the electoral area.
Later the elections took place at around 2:30pm when the two were still in police custody.
It’s alleged that both were agents of western youth MP aspirant Patrick Mwesigye.
At least fourteen NRM youth aspirants were viewing for western NRM flag bearer.
Mark Ariho got 9 votes, Patrick Mwesigye 8 votes and Joshua Akandwanaho got 1 vote the rest did not get any vote they are Ronald Mugisha, Agnes Tushabe, Edwin Muramuzi, Rolland Tugume, Gweni Murungi, Elija Natukunda, Edson Rugumayo, Hillary Musasizi, Crescent Mpairwe, John Igumira and Yeremia Muhondorwa.
In female national NRM flag bearer, Olivah Mutesi polled 7 votes, Desire Muhoooza 7 votes, Phiona Nyamutoro 2 votes and Gwedoline Musimenta got 1 vote, the rest that include Macklean Busomoki, Robina Akir Norah and Ester Asingwaire got zero.
Female national workers MP Agnes Kunihira Abwori got 4 votes while Annet Birungi polled only two.
For the male seat, Arinaitqe Rwakajara got 6 votes, Charles Bakaburindi 6 votes, Agatha Namurembe 5 votes, Sam Lyamoki 2 votes, Wilson Owere 4 votes and Anthon Wanyama 1 votes the rest got zero they are Ivan Kizito, Alex Kwatampora, Grace Okoral Malinga and Francis Okello.
National female elderly Joy Waako Peggy got 8 votes Grace Kannike did not get any vote as well as Rose Bwaire Giibwa also did not get any vote.
On western region NRM flag bearer for workers Joram Tibasimwa Rutega got 5 votes Anne Muhindo Bakalimbaga got 3 votes the rest who included Stephen Mwesigye Basaliza, Zabeda Masereka and Prisca Mwesigwa got zero.
For people with disabilities western region, Edson Ngirabakunzi got 12 votes, Wood Katuramu got 8 votes and Ambrose Aturinda got 2 votes.
National female pwd representative Laura Kanushu got 17 votes while Sofia Nalule Suuko got 5votes.
For eastern representative Hellen Grace Asamo got 22 votes against Musa Kasaja who got zero.
Northern three contested and Rose Obol Achayo got 17, Joyce Acan Okeny 5 votes while Septmus Owing got zero.
