KAMPALA- The Director of Police in Uganda Police Basil Mugisha has warned traffic officers against plucking off the number plates from vehicles which he termed as vandalism.
According to a letter dated July 8th 2020 and addressed to all Regional Police and District Commanders and DistrictTraffic Officers, Mugisha said that he had learnt with concern that the Traffic officers were in habit of of vandalising peoples vehicles by plucking off the number plates of cars found with traffic offences.
“This practice is irregular and must stop forthwith” Mugisha strongly warned in his communication.
Commissioner of Police Basil Mugisha who was recently appointed as Director of Traffic to replace Steven Kasiima said that the traffic officers should be guided by Section 15 and 152 (i) (c) of the Traffic and Road Safety Act when conducting their duties.
He also asked the traffic officers to use CCTV cameras to track down offenders when necessary.
