KABALE- The Police in Kabale are investigating circumstances under which a 45-year-old man who was suspected of theft was beaten to death by an angry mob.
Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman Elly Maate has told journalists that Katugyenda Edsoni was yesterday found lying unconscious on the roadside by the LC 1 Chairman of Binagana village in Mayengo Parish in Kamuganguzi Sub County.
The LC 1 Chairman Agaba Henry reported the matter to Kamuganguzi Police Post who rushed to the scene and tried to rush Katugyenda to Hospital but he died on the way.
Maate said that besides the body where Katugyenda lay, was a sack of Irish potatoes which implies that he was suspected to be a thief.
Maate also said that the deceased was found with multiple injuries which indicated that he was beaten by a mob.
A case of murder by mob was registered at Kabale Central Police Station under reference number CRB 658/2020 to help in investigations.
However Maate said that the Police have instituted investigations into the case and whoever is found to have participated in the mob justice will be arrested and charged accordingly.Maate said that the Police does not condone mob justice and will continue the case until those culprits are apprehended.
