RUKUNGIRI- The Police in Rukungiri district have raided Global alliance offices and arrested four leaders following a complaint from one of the group members claiming to have been conned.
Those in detention are Adellah Kyasimire, Rachael Owembabazi, Olivia Katushabe and Ronald Byamukama. The Police also confiscated furniture from the alliance’s office.
The arrest follows the recurring complaints of extortion from members of the public which prompted the district security committee to carry out an operation closing Global alliance offices in Rukungiri Municipality.
M/s Joan Kyomugisha 23, a resident of Kagashe ward in eastern division, Rukungiri Municipality, filed a complaint at Rukungiri police station after she was conned of 500,000 shillings.
Kyomugisha told our reporter that she received a call promising her to be out of poverty if she could make a subscription of 900,000 shillings.
ASP Florence Nabulya the Rukungiri district crime intelligence officer who led the operation noted that it wasn’t the 1st time these leaders were arrested following complaints from different parts of the country.
Nabulya noted that increased complaints prompted them to carry out another operation. After the arrest ASP Florence Nabulya said they will parade the suspects in courts of law once investigations are complete.
