RUKUNGIRI- The Police in Rukungiri have in their custody an employee of Rukungiri Municipality who is alleged to have been soliciting money from unsuspecting job seekers with Rukungiri District Local Government.
It is alleged that Turinawe Gift who works as a Cold Chain Assistant at Rukungiri Municipal Council has been getting money from job seekers promising them that he would ensure they get jobs.
Turinawe’s luck ended recently when he took Ugx 2 million from a job seeker ( names withheld) claiming that a member of the District Service Commission needed it .
He went on to send a message to the prospective job seeker who already had done interviews that she had passed well and should only wait for her appointment letter.
After waiting for the appointment letter in vain, the prospective job seeker stormed the office of Secretary Public Service Commission complaining on why she had not received the letter.
It was at this time that the Principal Human Resources Officer Kenneth Mutungi who is also the Secretary to Rukungiri District Public Service Commission realised that there were conmen out there defrauding the job seekers promising to get them jobs.
“A trap was laid for Turinawe using the phone he had been using to contact the prospective job seeker and was arrested and handed over to Police” Mutungi said.
Mr Mutungi asked the general public especially those seeking jobs at the district to stop dealing with anyone who solicits money from them promising them jobs.
Mutungi made it categorically clear that governmen jobs are awarded on merit, competence and qualification and are not sold like some are made to believe.
He warned the people who have been conning the unsuspecting members of the public promising them jobs that all of them would be arrested and exposed
