KABALE- The Police in Kabale District is investigating a fatal road accident that instantly claimed the life of a 65-year-old woman who was knocked yesterday shortly before noon.
The accident occurred on Tuesday June 30th 2020 at around 11:00 hours at Hakashenyi SACCO within Mayengo along Katuna-Kabale highway.
According to the Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman Elly Maate, the accident occurred when a motorcycle reg number UER 120L a Bajaj Boxer knocked two pedestrians who were crossing the road.
Maate identified the deceased as Murungi Peace of Mukarangye cell/ Ward Katuna town council who died moments later from Kabale referral hospital where she had been rushed for medical attention.
Another pedestrian Nuwahabwe Gift aged 23 years of Nyinamuronzi cell/Ward Katuna town council and the cyclist Kasigwa Gerald 31, of Murandamo cell Butanda Sub County respectively were also injured and rushed to the hospital for treatment and were later discharged.
“The accident happened when a boda boda cyclist knocked two pedestrians and all the three were injured and rushed to Kabale Regional hospital for further treatment where Murungi died moments later,” Maate told the press.
The Police PRO has advised road users to be vigilant whenever they’re on the road since most people have become victims of accidents in the area which in most cases results from careless road usage by both pedestrians and cyclists.
Police visited the scene and inquiries to establish the likely cause of the accident, ongoing under ref Kabale TAR 15/2020.
The accident comes just days after three family members perished in a Kabale-Kisoro highway road accident moments after Hilary and Barbra Namanya also died in an accident along the same road on their way to a scientific wedding in Kisoro District.
