REPATRIATION: Over 80 Congolese allowed to go home

NEWS- A total of 83 Congolese from Kyaka II Refugee Settlement in Kyegegwa were today allowed to cross via Bunagana after being intercepted at Kanaba check point.

Security officers at Kanaba check point intercepted 23 females,19 males and 41 children all travelling  in two taxis destined for Bunagana Border Post.

The taxis UBE 216S and UBD 268E carried the refugees from Mbarara to Bunagana border.

The refugees told our reporter that they decided to return back to their home country after they faced harsh conditions in the refugee camp like lack of food.

They said that they are given Ugx 22,000 per month, to buy food and other needs which they said was too little and sometimes it delays.

A security source who preferred anonymity said that refugees have been coming from different settlements going back to Congo but in small numbers.

He urged people of Kisoro to be vigilant since the refugees may start to use illegal routes to enter Kisoro District and this could aid the spread of Coronavirus.
