KAMPALA- The Police on Wednesday July 1st 2020 arrested Ex-Presidential aspirant Prof. Venacious Baryamureeba on allegations of knocking a pedestrian dead.
According to Luke Owoyesigire, the Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson, Prof. Baryamureeba was detained at Kabalagala Police Station as detectives investigate the fate of his action.
Owoyesigire added that the second victim Namusoke Mariam is still admitted at Mulago hospital.
It is alleged that the tragic incident occurred after a vehicle with personalized plates “U” that was being driven by Prof. Baryamureeba, knocked two female pedestrians and a perimeter wall fence at the Kibuli – Muyenga junction, in Makindye Division.
“Yes we have Professor Baryamureeba in our custody at Kabalagala police on charges of causing death through reckless driving,” he says.
Information also revealed that one of the pedestrians died on spot and the deceased has since been identified as Mariam Jagenda, whose body was later taken to Mulago KCCA Mortuary for postmortem as investigations continue.
He says after investigations, he will appear before courts of law and face his charges.
According to traffic law any person who knocks a person dead is convicted for a period of 10 years in jail.
