SHEEMA- The Sheema District NRM returning officer Mr. Franklin Ahimbisibwe has declared Pro Ephraim Kamuntu the Justice and Constitutional Minister as the winner of Friday’s NRM parliamentary race after several allegations of vote-rigging.
The announcement comes barely a day after the chairperson of the National Resistance Movement-NRM Electoral Commission Dr Tanga Odoi cancelled results from the same constituency citing irregularities.
The cancellation followed a series of meetings held aimed at resolving disagreements between the aspirants who accused each other of vote-rigging. The other aspirants included Prof Elijah Dickens Mushemeza, Nickson Banduho Tugume, Moses Mwebesa, Yorokamu Bategana and Benson Kamugisha Tumuhimbise.
At first, three of the contestants were pointing fingers at themselves accusing the registrar of altering them in favor of either opponent.
Now in an official declaration form accessed by our reporter, Kamuntu gnarred 10,554 equivalent to 31.6%, Prof Elija Dickens Mushemeza polled 10,460 equivalent to 31.3%, Nickson Tugume polled 10,421 that is 31.2%.
Others in the race were Moses Mwebesa with 562, Benson Tumuhimbise 210, and Yorokamu Bategana Katwiremu who polled 1,220 votes.In the other areas, Dicksons Kateshumbwa garnered 22,817 votes earning him 55 per cent tally to defeat the incumbent and Minister of Science technology and innovation Dr Elioda Tumwesigye who managed 15,388 votes a percent of 37.2 percent
The Woman Member of parliament’s race was won by Rosemary Nyakikongoro who got 41,134. She defeated Atuheire Jacklet Rwabukurukuru, the incumbent who polled 37, 865 votes, Adrine Katusiime Mwebesa 12,462 vote, Zamu Naluwooza 1,371 votes, Brenda Annet Katookye 376 votes and Hajjat Hamidah Namukasa, 251 votes.
Naume Kibaju retained her flag to represent Sheema North, after trouncing Arther Mugisha and Didas Taboora.
