KAMPALA-President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has disclosed that the 27 NRM Members of Parliament who in December 2017 voted against the removal of the age limit cap from the 1995 Constitution will not face disciplinary action.
This comes after President Museveni held a closed-door meeting of the MPs at State House which was attended by NRM Secretary General, Hon. Justine Kasule Lumumba.
Our sources indicate that the said rebel MPs were apologetic and promised to work with the party.
The rebel MPs explained that they voted against the age limit removal because of pressure from their constituents.
“After consulting party lawyers, the President took the matter to the Central Executive Committee yesterday and is said he even quoted the Parable of the Prodigal Son as captured in the Bible and asked the party to forgive the rebel MPs,” Our source said.
The Central Executive Committee members debated the issues of the MPs’ return and resolved to forgive them in the interest of unity and harmony. This means that the prodigal MPs will not face the disciplinary committee and they are now free to contest in the forthcoming NRM party primaries.
