MITOOMA- Mitooma district NRM supporters and leaderswere involved in endless jubilations after their party chairperson his Yoweri Kaguta Museveni Tibuhaburwa was officially nominated to contest for presidency in 2021.
President Museveni took power in 1986 and has ruled Uganda for atleast 34 years.
After being nominated by the electoral commission at Kyambogo University Cricket grounds on Monday in Kampala, Mitooma district leaders and supporters held a procession all through the district.
Talking to press at the Town council hall after the procession, the Mitooma District Resident Commissioner Ms Ada Nasiima congratulated president for being nominated and asked voters and NRM leaders to be united in campaigning for Museveni and all party flag bearers.
“For us who were unable to join the national nomination in Kampala because of the guidelines by the National Independent Electoral Commission, we decided to hold our jubilation on this level in solidarity with our party chairman” Nasiima asserted.
Mr. Julius Kagina, the NRM Administrative Secretary Mitooma district said they hope to get more than 90% total votes in the district for president Museveni.
“This time, our presidential flag bearer will score more than 90% because the party is gaining fan base everyday that goes by and we must win all the seats here in Mitooma” Mr. Kagina told the press.
Tushabe John, one of the voters and a resident of Mayanga Sub County who talked to our reporter said he is ready to look for votes for president Museveni and thanked president Museveni for ensuring peace in the country.
“Am the coordinator of Crime preventers in the district and I was party of today’s procession. People out there be it the old and young welcomed us very well indicating that the whole district was proud of our candidate’s nomination” Mr. Tushabe said.
Ms Juliet Agasha Bashisha, the NRM district woman MP Flag bearer attended the function and asked voters to support all flag bearers in the district.
Other parliamentary flag bearers were represented by their political Assistants. At the end of the nomination exercise, 11 candidates were duly nominated Five of whom are political party candidates. They include Yoweri Museveni Tibuhaburwa Kaguta, from the ruling National Resistance Movement-NRM party, Gregg Mugisha Muntu from the Alliance for National Transformation-ANT, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, National Unity Platform-NUP, Patrick Oboi Amuriat, the Forum for Democratic Change and Democratic Party’s Nobert Mao.
The remaining candidates including Henry Tumukunde Kakurugu, Willy Mayambala, John Katumba, Fred Mwesigye, Nancy Linda Kalembe and Joseph Kabuleta, are all independents.
