KAMPALA- Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni has congratulated Tanzania’s incumbent President John Magufuli for the landslide victory he has attained in the just concluded presidential elections.
In a message posted on twitter on Saturday morning, President Museveni congratulated Magufuli and the Chama Cha Mapinduzi Party for the landslide victory.
“Congratulations to His Excellency @MagufuliJP and Chama Cha Mapinduzi Party on the resounding victory in the just-concluded elections, Uganda looks forward to working even more closely with you and the people of Tanzania to deepen our social, economic and political ties. Hongera!” President Museveni tweet reads.
Tanzanian President John Pombe Magufuli won a resounding election victory Friday with 84% of votes and Magufuli’s main challenger, the Chadema Party Candidate Tundu Lissu, won only 13 percent of the vote.
The Tanzanian Electoral Commission Chairman Semistocles Kaijage declared John Pombe Magufuli of CCM (Chama Cha Mapinduzi) who garnered the majority of votes as the winner in the presidential seat.
Uganda and Tanzania are jointly working on several projects and there is a close relationship between the two Presidents.
In September 2020, Presidents Magufuli and Mr Museveni met in Chato, Tanzania signed the Host Government Agreement (HGA) for the construction of the Crude Oil Pipeline project.
The 1,445 Km Pipeline will transport crude oil from Uganda’s oil fields to the Port of Tanga on the Indian Ocean.
