KAMPALA- President Museveni on Tuesday July 21st 2020 maintained that Places of worship, bars and Educational institutions are to remain closed as the scientist continue to analyze the situation before reopening.
The president was updating the country about Coronavirus state for the 19th time since the outbreak was declared in the country in March 2020.
The president noted that places of worship attract huge masses from different sects of life and they would be difficult to trace incase one is confirmed positive in the aftermath.
“For the churches, let us maintain status quo” President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni said.
“For education, I do not want to declare a dead year yet. Let us give it a month and focus on distance learning. Before September, we shall make a big decision” He said.
“I do not want to declare a dead year for schools because what if we get a vaccine or a treatment? Let us give ourselves this month to concentrate on long-distance learning as we analyze things” He added.
The President also announced that the airport and border points will remain closed until the situation abroad settles down.
“I know we are losing a lot of money because of tourism, but life is better than wealth” the President said.
President Museveni also added that Curfew has been pushed to 9:00 pm and ends at 5:30 am. Boda bodas, however, stop operating at 6:00 pm.
On the issue of Boda bodas “I was really worried about boda bodas. I was not sure we could find a solution. Scientists have come up with a solution. Because they have masks and a helmet, boda bodas resume work as of 27th July. However, the boda boda must record everybody he transports. This is aimed at contacting everybody he has transported when he gets sick. The ministry of transport will give them stages to work from” Museveni noted.
He also announced that Salons have been reopened, provided they provide masks for everybody and face shield for operators.
“There have been solutions for the Boda Bodas. The passenger will be wearing a mask. The rider must put on the helmet which will cover the face. They must also register the passengers”.
He as well announced the reopening of 110 arcades out of the 171 arcades inspected.
“In Kampala, we have 230 arcades. Whose products do they sell? They should shift and sell our products. This creates jobs for our children. We can’t be a market for another country” he said.
The President also added that after four months of enemy attack, only 1,072 were infected and more than 900 of those have recovered with no deaths.
“However, it seems some people are not happy with this. They come with all sorts of untested ideas. Any activity can take place, provided it can be done safely only that we do not want to kill our people because you are looking for money”.
