Police warns public against nearing Tanzanian truck that overturned along Kabale – Kisoro Road

RUBANDA- The Police in Rubanda District have cordoned off a section of Kabale – Kisoro Road after a fuel tanker overturned and started spilling the fuel.

Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman Elly Maate has confirmed that the Tanzanian registered truck No KBL 666A/ZG 1836 over turned at Rutoga sharp bend along the Kabale – Kisoro Highway early today morning and the driver one Umaru Saidi miraculously survived death and escaped unhurt.

Maate however said that the the fuel tanker which was carrying petrol started experiencing a leakage which the Police said was very dangerous and could start a fire in case of any heat.

“Nobody was injured but injured but the truck was carrying petrol and has started leaking and this is very dangerous in case of heat and the general public is asked to keep a distance from the scene” Maate said.

Maate attributed the accident to reckless driving and over speeding during the morning mist which could have forced the driver to swerve off the road and overturned.

The Police registered the accident at Rubanda District Central Police Station under reference number TAR 33/2020 to help in Investigations.

Meanwhile the Police in Kabale are hunting for a runaway driver who hit and killed unidentified man at Mwanjari along Kabale Katuna Road last midnight.

Maate said that the deceased whose particulars are unknown was run over by yet to be identified vehicle and the Police picked the body and took it to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital for a postmortem to be carried out.

The case was however registered at Kabale Police Station under reference number TAR 39/2020 to help trace the relatives of the deceased so that he can be taken for a decent burial.
