MITOOMA- The embattled Mitooma District chairperson and the National Resistance Movement NRM flag bearer for the same seat Benon Karyeija aka Boneza has rubbished claims that he won’t be the District chairman as per court standing order.
Mr. Karyeija told this Online Publication that although there is a court order, he is soon winning the case even before the end of the current term of office (2016-2021).
Mr. Karyeija was censured from the District Chairman’s office in 2017 by the councilors who accused him of selling the district Murram, misuse of power among other allegations.
Recently, the Mitooma District NRM chairperson Mr. Wilberforce Byaboneka stressed that even though the people of Mitooma trusted Karyeija with the party flag; he will remain a flag bearer and will never step in the office of the District chairman as per guidelines of the court order.
Talking to our reporter at his home in Kanyabwanga, Kashenshero Mitooma district shortly his official declaration as the NRM LC5 flag bearer, Karyeija said he is sure he will be in office in 2021 and may even be there before this current term ends.
Karyeija was again summoned in the NRM tribunal by one of the people he contested with i.e Alex Karitundu accusing the flag bearer of fueling irregularities in the recently conducted party primaries.
Among the accusations were voter bribery, harassment, intimidation, alteration of result among other cases howver the tribunal trashed all the allegations as baseless and lacking proof.
“He had seven reasons as to why he had petitioned but he even did not appear before the tribunal while the case was being heard. So the case was dismissed and am the official flag bearer”, Karyeija said.
He said at least 21 councilors who were under the influence of East African Affairs Minister Maj General Kahinda Otafiire and their Speaker have lost their seats since their people were against the decision.
“People were not happy with their decision and even their speaker also lost the seat. This means people knew the real truth behind my censorship and were unhappy”, he added.
Karyeija won the Mitooma District NRM primaries with 45,057 votes, followed by Alex Karitundu Okanga who polled 12,816 votes, Asiimwe Alex got 5,492 votes and Muhwezi Saverino trailed with 2,712 votes.
