KANUNGU- New entrant Kinshaba Patience Nkunda has trounced the Kanungu Woman Member of Parliament Hon Elizabeth Karungi to take the mantle of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag in the 2021 general elections.
Kinshaba Nkunda got 52,446 votes which is 55.64% and Hon Karungi Elizabeth who has been in Parliament since 2010 got 26,774 votes which is 28.4%.
Others in the race included; Juliet Atuheire Kanyamukwara who got 6,665 votes which is 7.07%, Consolanta Tumwesigye who got 4,028 votes which is 4.27%, Judith Ayebare Ntamuhanga got 3,820 which is 4.04% and Charity Mbabazi Kyarisiima who came last with 513 votes which is 0.54%.
Elesewhere in Kinkizi West the incumbent Hon James Duggi Kaberuka managed to defeat stiff competition from 4 other contenders and won the NRM primary elections for Kinkizi West.
Hon Kaberuka voted against the age limit prompting President Museveni to describe him as ‘akasheija’ (small man) got 32,134 votes defeating the Chairman Board of Directors for Kayonza Growers Tea Factory in Kanungu District Gregory Mugabe who got 24,173 votes , Julius Mbabazi got 1,487 votes, Mujuni Vanensio got 3,074 and new comer Adon Kahinda got 252 votes.
In Kinkizi East , Minister of State for Housing Dr Chris Baryomunsi won with 21,202 votes defeating his strongest rival Deus Nkwasibwe who got 19,616 votes, Oscar Kasya Nimpereza who got 3,387 votes and Niwagaba Francis who got 13 votes only.
However Deus Nkwasibwe also known as Omusisa, has rejected the results citing massive election irregularities in the election and has threatened to petition the NRM Electoral Commission Dr Tanga Odoi demanding for a recount.
While releasing the results, the NRM District Registrar Alex Turyahikayo said that the exercise was free and fair without any violent act.
