RUKUNGIRI- There is no more waiting and a ‘Muzukulu’ (grandchild of the NRM revolution” has emerged to contest for Rubabo Parliamentary County Seat in Rukungiri District.
Natukunda Peggy Moris Mafigiri has picked nomination forms to contest in the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party primary elections which she hopes to win with a landslide and later go on the become the party flag bearer in the 2021 general elections.
Natukunda was born on 12th May 1997 to Rev Enoch Karamuzi (Current Diocesan Secretary North Kigezi Diocese) and Constance Karamuzi.
At 23 years, Natukunda has emerged as the youngest female to contest for the Rubabo County Parliamentary Seat and she has vowed to out compete the contenders in the NRM party primary elections.
Natukunda attended St Paul Community Primary School in Rukungiri where she sat her Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) in 2009 and proceeded to Kinyasaano Girls High School for O level completing in 2013 and then joined Gayaza Cambridge College where she obtained her Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) in 2015.
She pursued a Bachelors Degree in Social Sciences majoring in Social Anthropology and Literature from Makerere University Kampala.
Fresh from University, Natukunda told this Online Publication that, there is no time to waste because human being by nature is a political animal and since she has been a leader through her educational career, she understands the terrain well and is ready to represent Rubabo County in the next Parliament.
Asked why she has joined politics when she is still very young, Natukunda said that she was inspired by the revolutionary Heroes who participated in the liberation struggle for Uganda when they were all below 30 years and are now leaders in the current regime, but captured power in their youth which gave them an opportunity to contribute to national development.
“I think it’s time for us the grandchildren to now take on where our grandparents have reached, you can’t run the relays alone, time comes when you have to pass on the baton to the next person and keep watching and supporting the game and I’m more than ready to take the on the baton once given a chance!” Natukunda said.
Natukunda has had an opportunity to work in different NGOs and CBOs, in the past years which have given her an opportunity to understand how poor representation in Parliament has led underdevelopment and this has inspired her interest in leadership and the best to overcome it is to become a Legislator and lobby for the much needed Development.
Rubabo County Parliamentary Seat is currently represented in Parliament by Hon Mary Paula Turyahikayo since 2006.
However several other people have already declared interest in competing with her in NRM party primary elections and these include Retired Major Godfrey Katamba Barambwire, David Ndindirize, Peter Kakurugu and Davis Nkunda among others.
