MITOOMA- The National Resistance Movement NRM reconciliation team led by Hon Minister Chris Baryomunsi has resolved to hold a special meeting with 5 top party leaders in Mitooma to solve the long rivalry in the district.
During the meeting held at Mitooma Town council hall on Monday October 26th, 2020, Minister Baryomunsi who is also the NRM vice Chairperson for western Uganda said that they will organise a meeting with the leaders who are accused of causing disunity amongst voters.
The leaders in question are Major General Kahinda Otafiire, Hon Captain Donozio Kahonda the Ruhinda South NRM Parliamentary candidate, Hon Jovah Kamateeka THE District Woman MP, Karyeija Benon Boneza the Embattled district chairman and district party chairperson Mr. Wilberforce Muhangi Byaboneka.
Baryomunsi’ decision followed the verbal exchange the embattled District chairman Karyeija who is also the NRM Flagbearer for the same seat and Party chairperson Byaboneka after failing to reconcile in front of the meeting that was convened by the party secretariat.
The reconciliation meetings have been going on country wide to ensure that party members who lost in the primaries don’t turn back as independents but rather to support the flag bearers so that he party can win all the seats.
Mr. Byaboneka surprised the meeting when he attacked Mr. Karyeija accusing him of deceiving the public Maj. Gen Kahinda was behind the saga of censuring him from office and yet it was a district council decision.
He said that Mr. Karyeija is still battling with court cases which include illegal sell of district Murram adding that he can’t support someone of such character though the party members entrusted him with the flag.
“He is still battling his cases, let him come out and tell us if I am deceiving, we cannot go by lies and I must stand for the truth”, Byaboneka said.
Mr. Karyeija on the other hand accuses the party chairperson Mr. Byaboneka of Siding with independent candidates to defeat the party flag bearers. Karyeija said Byaboneka in 2016 supported Maj General Kahinda Otafiire who had stood independent against the party flag bearer Capt Donozio Kahonda.
Karyeija added that this is Byaboneka’s tireless efforts to uproot the NRM from Mitooma and handing it over to the opposition and independents.
The reconciliation team leader Dr. Chris Baryomunsi then asked all the leaders to end the rivalry if they want the party to win the opposition and bring Mitooma back to peace.
“If we are not united, the opposition will get a way to defeat us. But as NRM we will handle this because I have seen the people of Mitooma are ready”, the minister explained.
Captain Donozio Kahonda the Ruhinda south county NRM Parliamentary flag bearer said the meeting was helpful and disregarded information that he was against some of the NRM councilors in his constituency.
Others in the meeting were the NRM district woman Parliamentary candidate, Juliet Agasha Bashisha, District leadership and other NRM candidates both Flag bearers and losers.
Hon. Kamateeka the district woman MP, Hon Thomas Tayeebwa the Ruhinda North MP and flag bearer missed the meeting without any communication for their absence while Maj. General Kahinda Otafiire missed on excuse of party duties.
