KAMPALA- The Ministry of Health has reduced the cost of testing for coronavirus in government facilities from Ugx 240, 500 to Ugx 185,000 per test.
According to a statement released by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health Dr Diana Atwiine the development comes after the reduction in the cost of transporting laboratory testing kits and other supplies from manufacturers abroad.
In August 2020, the Ministry of Health introduced a fee for COVID-19 testing citing a shortage of testing kits amidst increasing demand from organizations seeking to have their employees tested for the viral infection.
She noted, however, that the government will continue to provide free testing services to patients who present to health facilities with COVID-19 symptoms.
She also said that the Ministry will continue to tests contacts of people who have tested positive for COVID-19, community surveys to establish the extent of spread of the virus, surveillance samples, and frontline workers.
