Ministry of Gender launches Social Protection Fund in Rukungiri District

RUKUNGIRI- The Ministry of Gender and social Development under Social Protection Policy has on Wednesday July 8th 2020 launched the distribution of funds for senior citizens under social assistance grant meant to empower elders that are 80 years and above in Rukungiri District at Western Division headquarters.

Rukungiri District Community Development Officer Mr. Agaba Nemiscious told the journalists that this  money was supposed to be distributed starting from January 2020 each receiving 25000 per months therefore each will today receive their arrears for six months equivalent to Ugx 150,000.

Agaba also said that all sub counties will be catered for starting with Rukungiri Municipality.

Agaba emphasized that only those who are 80 years and above and have registered with NIIRA will receive this money through their Centenary Bank accounts.

He said that due to Coronavirus pandemic, the District shall find the elders in their Sub Counties and recipients must come with a mask.

The exercise will run for a period of 14 days and it is targeting to benefit 4000 people within the district and the money will be received every after 3 months.

Speaking at the same function Rukungiri District LC 5 Chairman Charles Anderson Kateebire thanked the elders for the great work they have done for the government and urged them to continue supporting the government.

He requested those who have not yet registered with NIIRA and are 80 years to do so and also be considered to receive their money.
