NTUNGAMO- The man who was yesterday shot by State minister for labour and industrial relations Mwesigwa Rukutana is reported dead.
Dan Rweiburingi whom bullet lodged in his head was a former FDC candidate for Rushenyi County in Ntungamo district. The incident happened yesterday during the Rushenyi county NRM party primaries where the incumbent was tussling it with Naume Kabasharira.
Rweiburingi had been evacuated from Ntungamo by Justus Karuhanga, a relative to First Lady Janet Museveni.
“I must admit Dan Rweiburingi talked to me about his intentions to support Rukutana’s opponent in Rushenyi” Says Kizza Besigye aide Ronald Mulinda.
“I strongly advised Rweiburingi against directly involving himself in NRM internal elections. I told him it would affect his career as he would be perceived to have defected by locals”.
“He had a valid argument that his intention was to defeat Rukutana who has been a menace in Ntungamo. But my view was that Rukutana could still be defeated without being seen to ally with any NRM candidate”.
“I was absolutely convinced that Dan Rweiburingi was a very strong man in Rushenyi, who, if he took a strong message of Change in the area, he could singlehandedly defeat Rukutana hands down”.
Minister Rukutana renowned for his arrogance and gun violence has been reportedly arrested by police.
