Min Aceng appearing in public without face mask shouldn’t lure you into flouting presidential directives- Nabakooba

KAMPALA- The Minister of ICT and National Guidance Hon Judith Nabakooba has asked Ugandans to continue observing the Standard Operating Procedures (SoPs) put in place by the government of Uganda in a bid to stop the spread of Coronavirus.

Hon Nabakooba who is also the Cabinet Spokeswoman said this today while reacting to the general public remarks after seeing her fellow Minister of Health Dr Jane Ruth Aceng in public without wearing a facemask.

Hon Nabakooba said that the incident where Minister Aceng appeared in public place without wearing a facemask was regrettable but it should not be used by others not to wear the face mask.

Hon Nabakooba warned that the security enforcement officers will continue to enforce the SoPs because it’s the only way to stop the spread of Coronavirus in Uganda.

The remarks by Hon Nabakooba comes a day after Minister Of Health Dr Ruth Aceng was seen in a public place at Oromo Sub County in Lira District without a facemask and without observing the social distance guideline.

This led to a cross section of the members of public who included Makerere University Lecturer Mwambusya Ndebesa who claimed that Aceng is preaching what she can’t manage to observe.

City Lawyer Andrew Karamagi went on social media ranting that Dr Aceng had broken her own pot.

Other critics said that Dr Aceng was too inconsiderate because she has failed to lead as an example.

In her communication today, Dr Aceng said that it was not her intention to appear in public without a face mask but was overwhelmed by the youth who turned up at the venue where she was launching the facemask and as such she had to address them.
