RUKUNGIRI- Rukungiri district has received a presidential donation to enable it to set up an isolation centre in response to the Coronavirus global pandemic.
The district has been using Rukungiri health center 4 as an isolation center but it lacked proper medical equipment.
The district is currently preparing Rukungiri Health Center 4 to serve as an isolation facility and Kitimba Health Center 3 as a quarantine center both are located in the western division of Rukungiri municipality.
Dan Kaguta, the area Resident District Commissioner who also doubles as the District Chairperson in charge of the coronavirus task force says that due to its proximity to the DR Congo border through Lake Edward, Rukungiri district needs to be well prepared for any eventualities that may occur.
In support of the preparation appeal, the President’s Office through the office of the Resident District Commissioner donated 6 metallic beds, 80 liters of sanitizers, 6 mattresses, 12 pairs of bed sheets, 800 face masks 10 blankets, 2 testing screens and 4 boxes of exam gloves worth UGX12 million.
Mr Kaguta noted that the donation shall be strictly used in setting up an isolation center at Rukungiri Health Center 4 to help the district in case of any confirmed covid-19 case.
Dr. Jonathan Kintu, in-charge of Rukungiri health center 4 says suspects need proper treatment that involves proper sleeping while at isolation facilities adding that as a facility they are ready to handle any covid-19 case that may arise.
Charles Andrewson Ketabire, the District Chairperson says that the identified facility had nothing, apart from buildings to keep suspects under isolation within the district adding that the donation comes as a major boost.
Ketabire cautioned the residents against defying presidential and Ministry of Health guidelines in fighting the spread of Coronavirus disease saying that some seem to have forgotten that CoronaVirus is still rampant within the country.
