Loser in Kihihi Town Council councillorship to re-run as Independent

KANUNGU- The loser in the just concluded Local Council NRM primary elections in Kihihi Town Council, Rogers Tumwesigye has announced his intention to contest as an independent in the general elections next year.

Tumwesigye made the declaration today while addressing a press conference at Vision Hotel in Kihihi Town Council where he said that his victory was rigged at the last moment.

“I would like to thank everyone who supported me in mobilization of votes and resources and the purpose for my candidature is just starting,” he said.

Tumwesigye said that the reason for contesting for Kihihi Town Council councillorship were  many and still stand because the people deserve better services and that he  can be part of that equation even when he is elected and that is why he has agreed to contest as an independent. 

“We have learnt their tricks and Electoral Commission which conducts the general elections are more symmetric and organized than NRM primaries.

He said that he was announced a winner with a difference of 61 votes at 6: 00 pm on Friday September 11th 2020 and an hour later, the loser was announced at 9: 00 pm with a difference of 21 votes.  

Tumwesigye thanked the voters, for supporting him and ignoring  more than money saying that even those who lined up behind his opponent after received money have pledged to support him in the secret ballot voting.

 “The journey has just began, we shall be there by God’s grace, the courage still stands, we’re even stronger than before,” he said.

Rogers Tumwesigye was contesting for District Councilor for Kihihi Town Council on the NRM ticket against Ally Rugomwa.
