La Maison TV5 Monde opens shop in Kampala

KAMPALA- The media space in Uganda is revolving with international players extending their foot print in the country.

On Thursday October 28,   La Maison TV 5 Monde a French global television opened its liaison offices in Nsambya, Kampala.

It will be under the Stewardship of Bonjour Kampala the first french web radio in Uganda making it the second centre promoting the French language and francophone culture in the country.

At the opening ceremony, H.E Jules – Armand Aniambossou, the French Ambassador to Uganda who was the chief guest thanked the country representatives for having decided to have such a centre in Kampala.

“Uganda is the place of freedom and human rights. I am one of the people who have worked to achieve this in few months. TV5 is a complimentary tool; Uganda is small country with majority of its population as youth that need to be skilled. This country is rich of opportunities both within and outside. Remember francophonie is all about the values and it’s not all about France where the language originated from but all over. 

There are few countries with TV5 mode and Uganda is one that has joined the small group “.Jules Said.

He advised them to extend their services to other areas outside Kampala since it is not representative of Uganda though it is the capital.

” We  want to improve not only being a lesson giver but a partner .We are so close and need to come together so that solutions are found  to problems which all is generated from the relationship.” he noted.

Mr.Thomas Mbussa Letakamba, the country representative Maison TV 5 Monde in Uganda revealed that they are launching and know it is a big centre for promoting francophonie values that include the French language and the human rights.

Mbussa also said that they are going to work closely with the schools to protect the environment since this one of the key matters that is greatly affected across Uganda and the world.

“This is a culture house and we are to promote the programs done locally and this will be open to everyone including; youth, children, adults. We shall also have debates, music concerts, screening of films, sporting activities,  poetry , skills training, reading materials, gastronomy , writing clubs for journalists  among others and epicentre for francophonie values  in  the country.” He explained.

“We shall work with the French teachers and intend to use the resources to deliver good services in Uganda, French club for the Journalists that will use the facilities to learn more and also have a class for defenders which is our special program.  I appreciate our partners and that would not have been possible without the French Embassy, AFK, Bonjour Kampala, Foundation  for Human Rights Initiative ( FHRI)  that have supported and all this is possible  been of them” Mbussa concluded.

The Executive Director of FHRI, Livingstone Sewanyana delightful said that he was honored to host TV5 and promised to corporate with them in this global aspect and as neighbors.

He also promised to enroll for French classes to boost his language bank since he travels to French speaking countries on a regular.

In the bid to promote, the environment, a commemorative tree was planted in the compound by the guests and also checked out crafts made by the beneficiaries.

TV5 Monde Africa was championed by Ms. Denise Epote for those without access to satellite,  and has  continental foot print  in a few countries  such as Burkina Faso, Burundi, Togo, Benin, South Africa, Nigeria, Democratic Republic of Congo ( DRC), Tanzania with Cameroon in the pipeline.
