KAMPALA- This was at the Next Media Services (NBS) new premises in their auditorium at Naguru. Started two years ago, the 2020 Conference will run under the theme “Year of the Pandemic and beyond”. Due to COVID-19, it will be live on TV and on social media platforms starting from Monday October 19-30, 2020.
H.E Jules- Armand Aniambossou, the French Ambassador to Uganda said that they were virtual though on Television due to the pandemic.
“We should think beyond the pandemic through creativeness and innovation. This part of intellectual blossoming makes a great deal of today’s world.
Freedom is so dear to us not only to Europe but the entire world, and it’s of paramount value. We are happy to organize this to avail people with the opportunity to speak”. Jules noted in his opening remarks.
Mr. Maxime Houinato, the head UN Women Uganda said that it is three years in a row since its inception and the gathering goes beyond East Africa and Africa at large.
“In 2020, we are here to see the next step towards policy making and better our countries. They say women are the salt of the soup and without them there is no development in the community. We are here to see that they are involved in up and down stream engagements.
The UN is 75 years old, and we want to see how far we have gone. Our intention is to start with the farther behind so that we are all good”. He added.
The opening ceremony that was moderated by seasoned journalists had panelists that included; Dr. Yonas Tegegn Woldemariam, WHO representative to Uganda and Head of Mission, Beatrice Kiraso, the former Deputy Secretary, East African Community, H.E. Massimilano Mazzanti, Italian Ambassador to Uganda, Rwanda and Burundi, Sabrina Krief, Prof. the French National Museum of Natural History among others.
The Six day conference will have sessions on global challenges, regional trends, women and politics, fourth industrial revolution, health and sport & art.
Kampala Geopolitics has partners such as; Makerere University, Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS), NBS, UN Women Uganda, Institute de Relations Internationale et Stratégique( IRIS), French Embassy in Uganda and Alliance Francaise de Kampala( AFK).
