KABALE- The Diocese of Kigezi on Tuesday October 27th 2020 donated foodstuffs and other items worth millions of shillings 300 Christian families who were affected by floods in the districts of Kabale, Rukiga and Rubanda.
The items include; 3,760 iron sheets, 497 kilograms of roofing nails, 1,855 kilograms of maize flour, 705 kilograms of beans and 168 blankets. Each affected family received 40 iron sheets, 35 kilograms of maize flour, 10 kilograms of beans, 6 kilograms of roofing nails and 3 blankets.
The diocese also donated 100 iron sheets to Rutare church of Uganda and 20 iron sheets to roof the lay reader’s house.
while handing over the items to affected families at Kinyamari, Kato among other areas in Kabale district today, the Diocese of Kigezi treasurer, Rev. Amos Tweteise who represented the Bishop of Diocese of Kigezi Rt. Rev. George Bagamuhunda said that the relief is meant to support hundreds of people whose livelihoods were disrupted by the May and April 2020 floods, which caused a lot of destruction in their areas.
Rev. Tweteise cautioned those that intend to divert the items from reaching the intended parties that they will be cursed. He called for patience and prayer because God is with and shares his love abundantly to his children.
The archdeacon of Rwancerere archdeaconry, Ven. Epafura Baryamureba said that he wanted to thank God for guiding the bishop to start that initiative of supporting flood victims. He appealed for more assistance to hundreds of people who are stranded without homes.
Evaryn Tukamushaba, a Christian from Katojo Church of Uganda who is among the beneficiaries lauded the diocese for giving a ray of hope to them. She says most families could barely afford a meal or bedding after losing all
their property to floods.
Livingston Garubanda, a Christian from Mushenyi B Church of Uganda said that part of their houses was destroyed by heavy rains and several house properties were destroyed. He says that he had lost hope until a team of the Diocese of Kigezi came and promised to support me.
Garubanda commended the Bishop for the relief food before asking him to intervene in their request for more support now that their property was destroyed by the floods.
Patience Baryamujura from Nyamibyango Church of Uganda, the chief Church warden of Rutare church of Uganda, Benon Mukaga among others applauded the Bishop of Diocese of Kigezi for the kind gesture. They appealed to other well-wishers to continue lobbying and support the flood victims, saying they are experiencing the effects of the disaster.
