Paul Ahumuza, a driver attached to Kabale Municipal Council is in trouble after he was arrested over allegations of misuse of Municipality Wheelloader registration number UAJ 796X for private business.
According to our sources, Ahumuza was arrested on Tuesday Feb 25thth in Kirigime Area of Southern division in Kabale Municipality, when he was found doing a private work using the municipality Wheelloader.
Kabale Municipality Mayor Emmanuel Sentaro Byamugisha told our Reporter that he was tipped by residents who questioned why the Municipality Wheelloader was involved in doing private work.
Byamugisha also said that he had already received several complaints that Muhumuza was in the habit of misusing government vehicles whenever he hot opportunity.
Byamugisha said that by the time Ahumuza was arrested, he was doing a private work in Kirigime instead of Municipality work at Mwanjari cemetery or at the garbage centre in Kirengyerere, Kyanamira Sub County in Kabale district.
Byamugisha said that Ahumuza will be subjected toface the established law since the Wheelloader is supposed to do only Municipality works not private unless assigned by the Municipality Town Clerk.
“Whenever the wheelloader gets a mechanical problem, the Municipality spends more than Ugx 100 million servicing it which is costly and wonders why the suspect decided to take the Municipality property to do private work”. Byamugisha said.
The Kabale District Police Commander Brian Ampeire says that Ahumuza is currently detained at Kabale Central Police Station as investigations in the matter continue.
“The Wheelloader is parked at Kabale Central Police Station after it was impounded when we swung into action after a tip off by the Municipality Mayor Emmanuel Sentaro Byamugisha”. The DPC said.
Ampeire said that the suspect will be charged with misuse of government property under the anti-corruption act.
