Kabale district NRM Registrar Keitaba on spot for influence peddling in elections

KABALE- The Kabale district NRM Registrar Maurice Mugenga Keitaba is on spot for influence-peddling in today’s District NRM male Youths Councillor flag bearer elections.

The election that was held in Kabale municipal stadium involved a battle between Ballack Edwin Amanya, a resident of Mwisi Bushuro Kitumba Sub County Kabale district and Ronald Bagamuhunda a resident of Southern division in Kabale municipality.

Only NRM delegates from different Sub Counties in the district were supposed to participate in the voting. However, during the voting, a section of youths who subscribed to Amanya boycotted the voting accusing Keitaba of sneaking in non-delegates to participate in the voting.

A section accused Keitaba of being sided with Bagamuhunda and allowing non-delegates to impersonate some delegates and participate in the voting.

Amanya claimed that Keitaba together with Sam Arinaitwe, the Kabale Central division Chairperson came along with some non delegate youths so that they vote in favour of Bagamuhunda to win the election.

They claimed Samuel Namanya, a resident of Rukiga district voted for Bagamuhunda as an NRM delegate from Maziba Sub County which was illegal.

Amanya added that another youth whose identities were unknown also impersonated the Kabale district NRM Youths League Chairperson Kassim Kamugisha to vote in favor of Bagamuhunda which was contrary to the party guidelines.

Amanya also accused Keitaba of ordering voters not to identify themselves and following fake registers to favour a candidate of his choice. He said he is considering petitioning the NRM secretariat after which he shall decide whether or not to bounce back as an Independent candidate in the general elections.

Keitaba, however, said that if a section feels cheated, they should petition other relevant party offices for a solution.

He also asked the youths to find solutions in other political parties if they are not convinced with NRM saying the ruling party did not depend on them to capture power in 1986.
