RUBANDA-The Police in Rubanda are investigating circumstances under which a truck carrying goods from neighbouring Tanzania heading to Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo caught fire.
Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman Elly Maate confirmed that the Trailer Registration Number T593 DSX Mercedes Benz which was being driven by Jackson Fredrick was burnt at Kagano, after Karengyere Trading Center on the way towards Kisoro in Rubanda District.
Maate said that according to available records, the trailer entered Uganda through the southern border of Mutukula and was heading to Congo through Bunagana.
According to Maate, the incident took place at around midday today on 24th, July 2020 but fortunately no one was harmed since the driver managed to jump out.
Maate said that the Police Fire Rescue Team arrived from Kisoro and extinguished the fire but it had already caused a lot of damage to the vehicle although the goods within the container were not damaged.
Maate said that preliminary investigations indicate that there was a fuel leakage from the tank that sparked off the fire.
It’s said that all the tires of the truck were burnt to ashes. Maate said that a case was registered at Rubanda District Police Station under reference number SD 27/24/07/2020 to help in further investigation.
