Hundreds Denied Access to Kyambogo University Due to Lack of Masks

KAMPALA-Hundreds of students and other people who wanted access to Kyambogo university have been turned away because they had no face masks which was the first requirement to access the university.

These people are students and other people who wanted to access the university using gates like Kyambogo police station gate, national council for higher education gate, department of art and design gate and Kabaka road gate.

Despite the presidential nomination taking place at Kyambogo sports ground, few students who made it inside were allowed to access the class rooms and have their lectures.

Earlier, Professor Elli Katunguka had communicated that all other university activities were postponed and only lectures in class were allowed to happen.

Kyambogo university has already entered in the books of ministry of health after one staff in the office of dean of vocational studies tested positive and all his nine contacts were put into isolation.

The mentioned gates are manned by Kamed security company, a private security company contracted to keep the security of the university. Because of these two presidential nomination days, they are now accompanied by other security agencies like police and soldiers.

Isaac Erase a private security guard with Kamed security company reveals that, yesterday, one of their bosses briefed them that Covid-19 has already entered  in the university so they should be careful and enforce the SOPs put in place.

Erase notes that they were directed to be extra careful and make sure that whoever accesses the premises have their masks on and endeavor to hand wash/sanitize.

Meanwhile, blocking most of these students affected the turn up of students in the university, as it was observed that in most faculties were full of security  personnels on the look out.

A female security guard at Kabaka road gate on a condition of anonymous says, students had started relaxing to an extent that most of them come without masks and washing hands becomes a challenge for them.

She hopes that whoever comes tomorrow will be with those masks now that they have been sent away.
