RUKUNGIRI: The incumbent Hon. Mary Paula Turyahikayo has won her bid to represent Rubabo Constituency, Rukungiri district in Parliament on the NRM party ticket.
The results were declared today at 9pm by the NRM district registrar Jackson Mugarura Kiiza in an exercise held at the district council hall.
Hon. Turyahikayo beat her immediate rival David Tushabomwe Ndindirize to the party’s flag bearer for the Constituency after scooping 19,148 votes.
Ndindiriza came second with 13,754 Votes, and Rt. Maj Godfrey Katamba claimed third with 5,315 votes.
The seat had attracted eleven candidates, the highest number of candidates to contest for a seat in the concluded NRM party primary elections.
She will now face off with the FDC’s Namanya Naboth who claimed victory in the concluded FDC primaries.
Ms Midius Natukunda has also been declared the NRM flag bearer Woman Member of Parliament for Rukungiri district after garnering 51,655 votes, Abiine Marysent Ariyo second with 24,531 and lastly Musiimenta Cledonia Bakironda with 1,477 votes.
Natukunda will now face off the incumbent, Hon. Betty Bamukwasa MuzanIira of the FDC party among other contestants.
