Health Minister Dr Ruth Aceng to stand for Lira Woman MP

KAMPALA- Uganda’s Health Minister Dr Jane Ruth Aceng has announced intentions to stand for Lira District Woman Member of Parliament in 2021 General Elections.

Having done a commendable job in containing the novel Coronavirus pandemic in Uganda, Minister Ruth Aceng has declared how she is prepared to represent the people of Lira in Uganda’s 11th parliament.

The Minister says will contest as Lira District Woman MP on the NRM ticket.

Minister Aceng announced this on Sunday afternoon July 5th 2020 at a news conference after wide consultations with the electorates and encouragement from members of the public.

She looks forward to unseat the incumbent Joy Atim Ongom who subscribes to the opposition Uganda People’s Congress (UPC).

Lira is known to many as a stronghold of the UPC since the party founder Apollo Milton Obote hailed from the area.

“My intentions to stand were ignited by the decision to unseat UPC and to give the area a better representation under the ruling party NRM” Minister Aceng told the news briefing.

Aceng was previously the Director General of Health Services before being admitted to cabinet by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on the basis of her impeccable performance at the Ministry of Health.

Born on May 11th 1968, Aceng attended Shimoni Primary School in Kampala Uganda’s capital city.

She later joined Nabisunsa girls Secondary school for both her Ordinary and Advanced Levels education.

She holds a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery, a Master of Medicine in Pediatrics, and a Master of Public Health, all from the Makerere University college of Health Sciences. She also holds a Diploma in Health Systems Management awarded by the Galilee International Management Institute, in Israel.
