MBARARA- The Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Planning has today Thursday launched the Presidential initiative on wealth and Job creation (Emyooga) in the greater Ankole sub-region intended to promote a savings culture and to eradicate poverty among Ugandans.
Speaking at the launch as the guest Speaker at the district hall Kamukunzi, the state Minister for Micro Finance Hon. Haruna Kyeyune Kasolo revealed that the money will be given to those who are in organized groups.
The Minister revealed that the money will be given at the level of constituencies with each given Ugx 560 million; each of the 18 groups will get UGX 30 million.
Those 18 beneficiaries include boda boda riders, salon operators, journalists, veterans, People with disabilities among others.
He noted that it’s now the time for the leaders to organize voters to benefit in this program saying they have a weakness of not organizing their electorates warning that this program should not be politicized but strictly be aimed at fighting poverty in the communities.
The Minister revealed that this program will begin its implementation within the course of this month once. The groups are have been identified and there will no fee or charges upon Sacco’s registration
In his remarks, the Deputy RDC Mbarara Emmy Katera Turyabagye asked the officials from the ministry to fulfill the promises as one way of ensuring that this program eradicates poverty within the electorate.
The launch was attended by various stakeholders from Mbarara and Isingiro who were headed by the Resident District Commissioners.
