KAMPALA- Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesman, Patrick Onyango has categorically denied the video clip circulating on social media that claimed that one of their officers stole a mobile phone.
In a press statement issued on Tuesday evening of 29thJuly 2020, Onyango said that on 27th July, 2020, security teams were deployed in various party headquarters in Kampala as they had several activities to provide general security.
He said that at FDC party headquarters in Najjanankumbi, the Police deployed there like it did elsewhere.
Onyango said that the team providing security at FDC offices in Najjanankumbi, got information that a section of FDC supporters are planning to leave the offices in a procession and harboured intentions to block Entebbe Road.
Onyango said it was at this time that the security team on the ground started guiding the people since President Museveni was about to pass along that section of the road heading to Entebbe and no procession should be allowed.
However, two FDC supporters wanted to enter their headquarters, but were advised to wait until President Museveni had passed and then be allowed to enter since no one at the time was permitted to enter or leave the premises.
Onyango said that the two refused and insisted on entering but Police used reasonable force to stop them and one woman fell down and when she got up, she assaulted one of our officers.
“The video shows one of our officers picking something black from the ground and what the officer picked was a Police epaulette/ flap ( rank holder) not a mobile phone as alleged by some people on social media,” said Onyango.
Onyango asserted that the Police are a professional force and; “our mandate is to protect life and property but not to steal.”
