MITOOMA- Uganda’s Health Ministry is in the Spotlight for registering fake Coronavirus cases.
The ministry on Thursday while releasing results from 1,989 samples tested on Wednesday September 16th 2020 confirmed that Uganda had registered 114 new Coronavirus cases.
All the new cases according to the ministerial statement are alerts and contacts 50 of whom are from Kampala, 16 from Bududa, 9 from Pader, 7 from Wakiso, 5 from Mbale, 5 from Sironko, 4 from Luweero and 3 from Adjumani. The other cases include 3 from Buikwe, 3 from Gulu, 2 from Hoima, 2 from Jinja, 1 from Kikuube, 1 from Koboko, 1 from Mitooma, 1 from Namisindwa and 1 from Ngora.
However Ms. Ada Nasiima the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) who also heads the District Coronavirus TaskForce downplayed the ministerial information saying that the District has no information about the said case.
Ms. Nasiima told this Online Publication that the district doesn’t even have anyone in quarantine but to their surprise, they landed on the information from a ministerial release that they have a case.
“No, no and no it’s a lie. We don’t have a case in Mitooma and I don’t know where they got that information because we have not registered any case,” Ms. Nasiima told the press.
Ms. Nasiima adds, “I don’t know who reported this, anyone who reported that should be asked individually but here in Mitooma we are ok”.
The head of the District TaskForce Nasiima told our reporter that they some months back followed up on suspects, quarantined them and their results turned negative. She added that they have no person quarantine and no samples from Mitooma have so far been sent to Kampala for testing.
Dr Robert Gumisiriza the Mitooma District Health Officer who was not yet aware about the case told our reporter that he was going to follow up on the matter though he seemed to know nothing about the case.
He added that maybe someone from Mitooma could have tested from Kampala but the District has not had that result yet.
“We cannot deny because someone from Mitooma could have taken tests from Kampala and registered his home area Mitooma” Mr Gumisiriza told this Online Publication.
He added that “In case of such information, I should have gotten information from the right source about case”.
When contacted for a comment, the Health Ministry Public Relations Officer Emmanuel Ainebyoona told our reporter that they might haven’t yet communicated to them but confirmed to us that he will thoroughly cross check with the Ministerial statement later on since he was already out of office.
“May be they might not have been briefed yet on the specifics of the case, but I will inquire” Mr. Ainebyoona told our reporter.
However in a circumstance where the Ministry of Health registers a case from any area, the Ministry takes the responsibility of informing the responsible Health Authorities to start tracing Contacts of the case which isn’t yet a case to Mitooma District. To date, Uganda has registered a total of 5,380 Coronavirus cases, 2,489 recoveries and sixty deaths.
