BUSHENYI- A heavy hailstorm that hit Bushenyi last night left residents in Ryamabengwa ward in Bushenyi Ishaka Municipality devastated the area after destroying their gardens and houses.
Last night’s downpour lasted for more than two hours. Most affected areas include; Ryamabengwa, Katungu and Mutojjo, all in Central division Bushenyi Ishaka Municipality.
The downpour that contained hailstorms and heavy winds destroyed crops especially beans, egg plants, tomatoes, banana plantations, cassava, and among others. And two homes.
Residents that lost their houses are now displaced and sheltering in a nearby church.Francis Muhanguzi, a resident of Ryamabengwa who lost an acre of tomatoes said he had injected alot of money but now is left with nothing.
Essau Byamugisha, another resident expressed worry noting that people will now lack what to eat since they have already been affected by the Coronavirus pandemic.
“We really need help because we now have nothing to eat, everything has been destroyed,” Byamugisha said.
George Magezi, the LCI Chairperson of Ryamabengwa wants the government to come to their rescue.
“We have been affected by this pandemic before it is done the hailstorm has hit us too, most families are going to be affected by hunger.”
