KANUNGU- The runners up in the National Resistance Movement NRM primary Parliamentary election for Kinkizi East, Deus Nkwasibwe also known as Omusisa has vowed to oust the incumbent Dr Chris Baryomunsi by contesting as an Independent.
The declaration by Nkwasibwe to contest as an independent follows the NRM Electoral Commissioner Alisemera Jane Babiiha’s announcement upholding Dr Chris Baryomunsi as the NRM flag bearer for Kinkizi East in the recent elections.
After the 4th September NRM primary elections, Nkwasibwe who alleged massive voter bribery, intimidation of his supporters and agents, and declaration of varying results by Kanungu NRM Registrar, petitioned the NRM Electoral Commission whose verdict which was announced today dismissed the petition.
After the announcement, Nkwasibwe issued a statement that his mission to liberate Kinkizi East was not yet over and he declared that he will contest as an independent candidate.
“In the past 25 days since you made long queues to elect me as NRM flag bearer, I made a petition to the Chairperson NRM EC challenging the outcome of a sham process, today 29th September, 2020, a ruling has been made by the tribunal against our appeal, I therefore announce my plans to come as an Independent Candidate with respect to the 2021 General elections as the nomination dates approach”
Nkwasibwe said that he believes that TEAM OMUSISA has a historic function to perform in the forthcoming election, and i intend to do my utmost to see that victory is won once again.
“Accordingly, the ruling throws cold water on our consistent patience and effort to ensure that our supporters celebrate their robbed victory and it goes directly against our voters choice and all those yearning for Change in Kinkizi East” He declared.
Several voters who talked to this reporter vowed to support Nkwasibwe saying that his earlier victory was robbed at the last moment due to the methods employed by the incumbent Dr Chris Baryomunsi who is also the Minister of State for Housing.
Elsewhere in Rubanda East the NRM Electoral Commission tribunal has said that they will make a second and last count of votes in 16 villages which are contested in order to determine the real winner of the elections.
According to a report issued by the NRM Electoral Tribunal Chairman Enoch Barata, the declaration of the real winner for Rubanda East where the incumbent Hon Henry Ariganyira Musasizi is battling Kenneth Joggo Biryabarema has been put aside until after the tallying of the results in the 16 contested polling stations.
