MITOOMA- Voters in Mitooma district have been advised to avoid electing leaders whose intention is to divide them during and after elections but rather choose wise and who can bind them together for development.
The advice was sounded by the Ruhinda County legislator Hon Captain Dononzio Kahonda while officiating at the grand opening of a bridge that connects Bukuba and Kyanzeire parishes in Kashenshero sub-county, Mitooma district on Saturday 18th July 2020.
The bridge according to the legislator cost Ugx 9.5 million stressing that more bridges are still under construction including those in Kabira sub-county that will cost up to Ugx 9.8 million and another at Ugx 17 million.
Residents in Kyanzire have for long been stranded with their agricultural products especially tea leaves and Matooke due to poor transport means to connect them to Kashenshero, Mitooma, Ishaka and other market places.
Hon Kahonda said though it’s not a role of a Member of Parliament to build bridges but he does this voluntarily for his people to test the benefits of a good leader.
Most of the residents expressed their happiness after the opening of the bridge saying it will assist them especially parents who have schooling children.
Children had always faced hardship while crossing from kyanziire to Bukuba primary school due to lack of connection between the two parishes.
Lawrence Banturaki, Vice chairperson Kashenshero sub-county thanked honorable Kahonda for his good heart and said they have been badly in need of that bridge since most patients from Kyanzire had always lacked ways of accessing treatment from Kasheshenro health Centre III.
He said they will now be crossing from the bridge.
