MITOOMA- Mitooma district has on Monday 5th October 2020 joined the rest of the world to mark the world Teachers Day.
The day was commemorated under the theme “teachers leading in crisis re-imagining the future” at St Noah Secondary School in Mutara Subcounty Mitooma.
Speaking as the chief Guest,the NRM LC5 chairperson flag bearer Karyeija Benon Boneza called upon parents and teachers to ensure proper nutrition and hygiene in their families.
The Mitooma District Education Officer (DEO) Barungi Peace Gloria asked teachers to always think of creating some other income generating projects besides class teaching.
“You can do something apart from teaching you can have your gardens or any other projects where you will be earning from if out of class like during this time of coronavirus pandemic”, she said.
The DEO also advised parents children and school administrators to make sure they follow the Covid guidelines when schools re-open.
Turwomwe Dennis, the chairperson Uganda National Teachers Union (Mitooma district) asked the government to always involve teachers in decision making concerning education sector.
“If they consider us, we can help them out because we also have some challenges as teachers”,he said.
Other activities carried out on the same day included tree planting which was carried out in atleast 16 schools in Mitooma district.
The celebrations were held ahead of schools opening for candidates slated for 15th October 2020. Other classes will be considered at a later stage
