KAMPALA- The Police have arrested Mutwahilu Bogere Wasswa, 24 the chairman of Bweyogerere Bukasa stage in the Old Taxi Park for attempted suicide.
It is alleged that the taxi driver went in front of City Hall, equipped with a 5-litre jerry can of petrol and a match box with intent to set himself ablaze.
SP Patrick Onyango the Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson said the suspect was protesting operation on public service vans without route charts on Burton Street by Kampala Capital City Authority.
“We were informed and picked him before he could set himself ablaze.
He is currently detained at Central Police Station in Kampala on attempted suicide offences,” Onyango told the press.
The police mouthpiece has advised members of the community not to take their lives for matters that can be handled amicably by the concerned authorities.
“Attempting to commit suicide is an offence,” he cautioned.
Onyango urged taxi operators to register their vans with the Ministry of Works and Transport for free to enable them in acquisition of route charts.
