KAMPALA- The Uganda People’s Defense Forces UPDF are yet to confirm reports that the former Police boss General Edward Kale Kayihura has been appointed Coordinator of Intelligence Organs.
Social media was on Monday afternoon July 20th 2020 awash the news of Kayihura’s reappointment into the Intelligence office.
Reports indicated that President Museveni had appointed Kayihura to serve as intelligence coordinator, a position previously occupied by Gen David Sejusa.
When contacted for comment, Brig Richard Karemire spokesman of the Defense Ministry told this online publication that he was yet to obtain such information from official and credible channels.
“I have not seen or heard anything to that effect from official sources,” said Karemire.
Gen Kayihura was sacked in 2018 at the peak of a cold war with then Security Minister Lt Gen Henry Tumukunde
At the time, Kayihura was accused of being a close associate of Rwanda’s security services as the country’s relations with Uganda were at an all-time low.
Also, Kayihura’s allies told us that they were not aware of the alleged appointment.
“It doesn’t seem to be true,” said a relative of Kayihura after a press engagement on the appointment.
