HOIMA- Reports coming in indicate that two fishermen have drowned in Lake Albert in Hoima District.
One of the deceased fishermen was a teenager known as Joseph Jabila aged 19 while his colleague was a 27-year-old identified as Angomoko Jakwonga.
Both fishermen were attached to Kiryamboga landing site in Tonya parish in Buseruka Sub County.
The Kiryamboga LCI Chairperson, Geoffrey Byensi noted that the fishermen’s boat was last night affected by strong winds which compelled it to capsize, subsequently drowning the 3 fishermen.
The trio were sailing in stormy water, fortunately, one identified as Jakwonga Openjmungu survived after swimming across and was rescued by other fellow fishermen.
The Albertine regional police spokesperson, Julius Hakiza stated that the police are yet to dispatch a team of marine divers to join local fishermen to search for the bodies.
